COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Info You’re After

WHAT DOES NON COMEDOGENIC MEAN?

Simply put, non-comedogenic means that a product contains ingredients that won’t clog or block the pores on your skin. Which is a great option for those who experience acne prone, impure or combination skin

This is because products that do not clog your pores will help reduce the chances of acne and pimples developing.

A comedo is the technical name for a type of pimple that is the result of a clogged pore and appears on the surface of your skin (typically around your face). So, products that are considered non-comedogenic will not clog pores, which could form pimple.

WHY DON'T YOU USE PALM OIL?

Palm oil is the main cause of the deforestation that is causing orangutans to go extinct. Not only that, but its production has a severe impact in other areas of the environment, like pollution. Moreover, more often than not the production of palm oil goes hand in hand with several ethical concerns like child and forced labour.

If this wasn't enough to convince you not to use palm oil, it's not good for your skin neither. It's very comedogenic, which means that it's very likely to cause breakouts and clogged pores.
But sadly, most soaps and cosmetic products have it as it is a very cheap ingredient.

At Pongo Soaps, we've made it our commitment to never use palm oil in any of our products and ensure that our ingredients are resourced ethically.

WHAT DO YOU USE INSTEAD OF PALM OIL?

We use plenty of oils in our soaps, all of them much better for your environment and your skin than palm oil. We use Shea butter, Kokum butter, Babassu oil, Sunflower oil, Castor oil, Olive oil and Grapeseed oil. All of these are high quality oils with very low rates of comedogenicity, which means that they are very unlikely to cause any clogged pores whilst are rich in antioxidants, they are powerful humectants, they have moisturising and hydrating properties as well as having antibacterial effects.
